Mackenzie Mayor Claire Barlow to Stand Again

2 May 2013

Mackenzie Mayor Claire Barlow to Stand Again

I am pleased to announce that I intend to stand for re-election to the position of Mayor of the Mackenzie District.

Moving from the council’s reception desk to the Mayor’s office has been a very steep learning curve and I have learned so much over the past three years. I love the job and love the community. It has been a privilege to serve the Mackenzie District as Mayor and I would like to continue.

I have decided to stand for re-election because this is an exciting time; a time of growth and progress. The district is on the verge of some great development opportunities and I would like to continue to be involved.

If I am re-elected my key focus will be on economic growth, because when businesses grow the entire community grows. I feel passionate about making sure the infrastructure is in place to support Mackenzie businesses to reach their maximum potential.

I also believe strongly in the value of personal relationships and working in partnership with others, both within the community and with neighbouring councils.

I feel it’s important for a Mayor to be available to ratepayers and I have always enjoyed talking to people who call in to see me. If I am re-elected I want to encourage more communication between the council and the community, so people feel informed and involved.

I have been married to Stephen for 29 years and have four adult children and four grandchildren. I have lived in the district for the past 16 years, and currently live in Fairlie a short distance from the council chamber.
