Double Standard of Labour and Greens Schizophrenic

Double Standard of Labour and Greens Schizophrenic

“For Labour and the Greens to expect the asset sales referendum to influence government when they blatantly rejected the anti-smacking referendum is a double standard, and further undermines their credibility,” says Colin Craig.

“The asset sales referenda achieved a 44% turnout, but 56% turned out for the anti-smacking referendum.”

“Over 67% voted no to asset sales, but over 87% voted no to the anti-smacking law.”

“The asset sales referendum was a political initiative; the anti-smacking referendum was a citizen’s initiative.”

“If you’re going to argue the asset sales referendum should mean something, you have to argue the anti-smacking one does too, says Mr Craig.”

“The Conservative Party’s consistent approach that all referenda achieving a substantial majority should be binding on government makes sense, but the schizophrenic nature of the Labour and Greens approach, does not.”
