Justice Coalition Supports Proposal for a Victim’s Commissioner

‘The Justice Coalition has come out in support of a Victim’s Commissioner. “Members of the Coalition support the proposal in principle”, said Ced Simpson, Coordinator of the Justice Coalition. “Many of the members work with victims, and can see the benefits of appointing a person to advocate for victims, and to articulate the views of victims to government and the wider public, in an objective and balanced way.”

There are currently Victim’s Commissioners appointed in the UK, Northern Ireland, and Australia, and the roles differ from one nation to the next. It will be important to resist the temptation to copycat another nation, and instead tailor the position to our own needs and priorities.”
