Aotearoa Against Trump to join March for Peace
PRESS
RELEASE: (18 November – Auckland) On Saturday 19 November,
the newly established group Aotearoa Against Trump will take
part in the March for Peace down Queen Street.
Trump has called for a significant buildup in the American defence forces. The US’s policy of intervention in the greater Middle East has led to a state of perpetual warfare in this region, and US military spending is at its highest level since the second world war. Trump has called for significant spending increases with respect to virtually all aspects of the US military, and the stocks of American military contractors surged upon the news of Trump’s victory.
In the context of unending conflict in Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq, South Sudan, Yemen, Nigeria, and other countries, Trump’s election is a fresh signal that the global peace movement must rise again to oppose the rich world’s war industry and its advocates such as Donald Trump.
Following our successful speaker event and march last Saturday, and encouraged by the blockade of the NZ Defence Industry Association Forum at the ANZ Viaduct Events Centre on Wednesday, we are returning to Queen Street this Saturday to raise our voices in support of system change. We hope that we will again speak with minority and tangata whenua voices as we fill Auckland’s CBD with a message of revolutionary peace.
