Have your say on the Telecommunications Amendment Bill

Have your say on the Telecommunications (New Regulatory Framework) Amendment Bill

The Telecommunications (New Regulatory Framework) Amendment Bill seeks to amend the Telecommunications Act 2001. A new regulatory framework has been designed following a mandated review of the current framework, conducted between 2012 and 2017. The Economic Development, Science and Innovation Committee is seeking public feedback on this bill.

The main purpose of the Telecommunications Act 2001 is to regulate the supply of telecommunications services. The new bill aims to modernise some of the powers within the law by:
• establishing a regulatory framework for fibre fixed line services,
• removing unnecessary copper fixed line access service regulation,
• streamlining regulatory processes,
• providing more regulatory oversight of retail service quality.

The bill aims to ensure that the regulatory framework for communications networks meets the future needs of consumers and businesses.
