Cross-Party Political Panel To Address Pressures On Community Sector

Six political parties will come together in Wellington next month to respond directly to the priorities of Aotearoa's Community and Voluntary sector.

Hosted by Community Networks Aotearoa in partnership with Sue Barker Charities Law, the 1 Sector, 6 Parties Respond - A 2026 Political Panel creates a rare cross-party forum focused squarely on the realities facing charities, Not-for-Profits, iwi organisations, and community groups ahead of the next general election.

The panel brings together representatives from the Greens, NZ First, TOP, ACT, National, and Labour, each responding to the same set of sector challenges in a single, nationally accessible discussion.

Moderated by respected political journalist Jehan Casinader, the conversation will unpack party priorities, policy direction, and how each intends to support a sector that underpins community wellbeing across the motu.

Ros Rice, Executive Officer of Community Networks Aotearoa, says the panel comes at a critical moment for the sector.

"The Community and Voluntary sector is under increasing pressure, while demand for services continues to grow. This is a chance to hear directly from political parties about how they plan to respond to this sector and provide the support that our communities deserve."

Bringing multiple parties into the same forum creates transparency and accountability. Our sector deserves clear, comparable answers on the issues that matter most to our communities."

The event will be held at the BNZ Partners Centre and livestreamed nationally, enabling participation from organisations and communities across Aotearoa.
