United Backs Export-Friendly Economy

13 October 1999

UNITED BACKS EXPORT-FRIENDLY ECONOMY

United New Zealand strongly supports the Interest-Linked Savings Scheme announced last Monday by Christchurch business consultant Phil Verry.

The first public launching of the scheme was at a public meeting in the Rangitikei electorate town of Fielding, organised by United’s Rangitikei candidate and primary industries spokesperson, Jim Howard.

“This scheme is a very valuable initiative which deserves wide public debate and serious consideration by all political parties. All parties were given the proposals, in confidence, earlier this year, and have had plenty of time to consider them. United has taken the initiative to have them made public because they need to be a part of economic debate during the election campaign.

“Most people realise that the current economic policy mix is not working to develop this country’s potential for the benefit of all New Zealanders. A new approach is necessary.

“Mr Verry’s ILSS scheme offers a practical mechanism to develop United’s policy of an export-friendly economy which will rejuvenate the export sector, particularly rural and provincial New Zealand, and provide real jobs to overcome unemployment and greater income for all New Zealanders, our government and our businesses,” says Mr Howard.

Mr Howard says United New Zealand will bring this issue to the forefront of public meetings throughout New Zealand over the next seven weeks.
