SUVA: (Fiji Times Online/Pacific Media Watch): Veteran Fiji journalist and publisher Robert Keith-Reid died yesterday morning at the Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane, Australia.

He was on the road to recovery after surviving a by-pass operation and fighting off complications when he collapsed at a hostel behind the hospital.

Keith-Reid, publisher of Islands Business, was on a work assignment in the Solomon Islands when he suffered a heart attack in the last week of March. He was evacuated to Brisbane for an emergency operation.

Keith-Reid came to Fiji as a teenager in the 1950s.

His first job in journalism was at the then Fiji Broadcasting Commission. After a stint there, he moved to The Fiji Times and began writing a weekly column called Sidetracks.

Later he went out on his own and bought a small magazine business in 1985 which he developed as Islands Business International where he remained publisher until his death.

Keith-Reid maintained the Sidetracks column which the Sunday Times published every Sunday.

His business partner Godfrey Scoullar said Keith-Reid enjoyed writing Sidetracks and was always pleasantly surprised and encouraged by people's reaction to his column.

He said Keith-Reid was a friend to all and would be sorely missed by the industry.

He was 64 years old and is survived by his wife and two children.
