PM pays tribute to Ealing MP
20 June 2007
The Prime Minister has paid tribute to Piara Khabra, Labour MP for Ealing Southall, who died on Tuesday.
At the onset of today's PMQs, Mr Blair said that his colleague had been "a tremendous servant to his constituents" and would be "greatly missed". Mr Khabra had been "a tireless campaigner, particularly on international development and racial equality", he added.
Mr Blair took the opportunity to thank the Indian community for their "tremendous contribution" to the UK and noted that the UK's relationship with India "has never been stronger".
Mr Khiabra was born in Punjab, India and trained as a teacher. He became MP for Ealing Southall in 1992.
