Fly-past To Honour Sabre Pilot

What:
Fly-past by two Hawk aircraft from RAAF Base Williamtown.

Why:
The aircraft will be participating in the dedication of a memorial plaque to commemorate the crash of a Royal Australian Air Force Sabre aircraft at The Junction in 1966.

Where:
The aircraft will fly over Glebe Road, The Junction, from east to west at a height of 1,500 feet.

When:
Thursday, 16 August 2007. The fly-past is scheduled to take place at 10.15am.

Background:
The Royal Australian Air Force’s 76 Squadron will take to the skies of Newcastle to honour a fallen pilot during the dedication of a memorial plaque tomorrow.

The plaque will commemorate the crash of an RAAF Sabre aircraft at The Junction in 1966. The pilot, Flying Officer Warren William Goddard of 2 Operational Conversion Unit, was killed.
As part of the event, two Hawk aircraft will fly over the Cenotaph at The Junction.
