London’s Biggest Social Sports Club Welcomes Investment |
||
This week’s announcement of further government investment in community sports facilities for secondary schools has been warmly received by Go Mammoth – the capital’s largest social sports club.
“This is great news for all sports clubs and one of the most positive steps that the Culture Secretary could make to ensure that Britain enjoys an Olympic legacy,” said Luke Mohr – founder of Go Mammoth.
Go Mammoth professionally organise indoor and outdoor leagues in eight different team sports at twenty sites around London including basketball, dodgeball, netball, volleyball and football. They target young professionals who want to combine a buzzing social life with keeping fit and are already the capital’s biggest user of school sports facilities.
“We have more than 10,000 annual participants in our sports leagues around London and with 90% of our venues being school sites this will allow us to accelerate our growth targets”, said Mr Mohr. “We are already struggling to find enough good facilities in London to accommodate the demand despite being only 18months old”.
Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt said that £10
million in extra funding would be devoted to improving
public access to sports facilities within schools.
It is
part of the 1billion that was pledged to increasing young
people’s participation in sport as part of the 2012
Olympic bid.
Three-quarters of all the artificial pitches
and sports halls in England are already sited in schools as
well as over one third of the swimming pools.
"This is
the first time we will have had proper links with local
sports clubs and schools,” said Jeremy
Hunt.
