Imprisoned Journalists Call For Help

Ahrar-Wledna

19 May 2012

The Palestinian journalists detained in Israeli occupation jails appeal to the International Federation of Journalists and to legal and human rights institutions interested in prisoners’ affairs, to work for their release.

They said, in a statement provided to Ahrarwledna that they appeal to all competent authorities to raise their situation in the international community.

According to the statement, there are eight Palestinian journalists detained in the prisons of the occupation, most of them are detained administratively.

The statement says that according to international law, detaining journalists is considered a violation of human rights, particularly the right of freedom of expression.

The detained journalists on Thursday called upon those institutions to support them by working towards ending administrative detention, instating civil trials, and assigning international lawyers to guarantee the freedom of the press and of journalists.
