Queen Street Parade To Celebrate America’s Cup
NEWS RELEASE AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL
An America’s Cup parade along Queen Street will be a fitting conclusion to one of Auckland’s and New Zealand’s greatest sporting events, says Auckland City Mayor Chris Fletcher.
“The parade is an opportunity to show our pride in Team New Zealand on their historic victory and also acknowledges Prada’s challenge, which has shown wonderful sportsmanship and injected life into the cup and city.
I know Aucklanders will want to show their appreciation for all those who have taken part and celebrate the incredible success of America’s Cup 2000, said Mrs Fletcher.
“The America’s Cup has been great for the city and country, and it is tremendous to know that we will be hosting another defence. Auckland’s profile has been significantly boosted as an international city for hosting what has been the best ever America’s Cup event.”
Chris Fletcher said she expected a huge crowd would turn out for the parade that will start in Mayoral Drive at about 12.30pm on Saturday.
All the other councils in the region have contributed towards the parade, which will be unforgettable celebration, she said.
