Sexual Harassment Investigation Concluded

In April of this year Auckland City management commenced an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment by an Auckland City staff member in the Gulf.

A number of formal allegations were lodged with the organisation naming John Russell, a Health Inspector, as the employee involved.

Auckland City management then proceeded with its investigation using our internal procedures.

Throughout the investigation, Mr Russell has strenuously denied the allegations.

Prior to completion of the investigation, Mr Russell announced his resignation from the organisation for medical reasons, as a result of being diagnosed with a serious kidney condition. Mr Russell had 42 years service with council.

Human Resources Manager for the council, Peter Elder, announced that this concluded Auckland City’s internal investigation into the issues surrounding sexual harassment as no other staff member had been named in any of the formal complaints laid with the council.

Any further inquiries are to be made to Peter Elder, Human Resources Manager, on
