Airport Returns $16.4 Million To Auckland City

Auckland City Council Investments Committee today welcomed the preliminary results announced by Auckland International Airport.

Committee Chairman, Councillor Vern Walsh says. "Auckland City as a major shareholder in Auckland International Airport Limited can have confidence in the performance of the city's investment in the airport after the announcement of a record surplus after tax of $51.053 million - a 20% increase on last year".

Auckland International Airport has announced a final dividend of 5.2c per share, bringing Auckland City's total dividend for the year to $16.4 million.

"This is a great return for us and allows us to invest in infrastructure such as public transport without having to increase our levels of debt or place additional burden on ratepayers", said Councillor Walsh.

Councillor Walsh said that the performance of the company and the return to ratepayers by way of dividend has confirmed in his mind that the decision of the Council to retain the shares in Auckland International Airport Limited was a good one.
