Patience Urged Over Tree Problems

Some residents with tree problems are ringing the Christchurch City Council a second time with their messages.

"They have to be patient as we are dealing with the most urgent and dangerous trees first. Residents should not make repeat calls as all calls made since yesterday are on a database," said the Parks Unit asset manager, Richard Holland. "We will get around to all the tree problems in good time," he said. Mr Holland estimates that it could take two weeks to clean up damaged trees. The Botanic Gardens will now be open on Sunday - and not Monday as reported earlier. Mr Holland said anyone or any organisation that had events planned on city parks should check with the Parks Unit about its status.

Roads

Update on road closings: Evans Pass Road is closed on the Christchurch site because of slips. The Summit Road remains closed. Eastern Terrace and part of Birdwood Avenue, Beckenham, are closed because of flooding. River Road, from Fitzgerald Avenue to Stanmore Road, is closed because of work on power poles. Mount Pleasant Road, above Moncks Spur Road, is closed because of fallen trees.

NB: If a release has not yet been received, the Fire Service might issue a statement about problems with residents ringing it with requests to clear water.
