Nautical Theme Take Shapes

On Friday 15 December the nautical theme for The 1850 Ball will take shape in Victoria Square.

Preliminary work will start the day before. Preparing the nautical look will take most of Friday to construct the 6.5m sailing ship rigging that will form the stage.

Tickets are still available at $45 for the Ball that will be attended by the Governor General, Sir Michael Hardie Boys, the Deputy Prime Minister, Jim Anderton.

Other VIPs attending will include the Hon Christopher Godley, a great-great grandson of John Robert Godley, the founder of Canterbury, and Sir Humphry Wakefield, a descendent of Edward Gibbon Wakefield, a co-founder.

The VIPs will arrive in veteran cars and be escorted to the Ball by naval officers from the New Zealand frigate, Te Mana. They will make a grand entrance along a red carpet between 8.15pm and 8.30pm. The Ball will start at 8pm and will close at 12.30am.

NB: Media representatives attending the Ball will be registered and will be allowed to remain until 10pm.
