Xmas Cheer For Grey Power Manawatu

Grey Power Manawatu

Media Release
Thursday, 14 December 2000

Christmas Cheer has come early to the Manawatu and Wanganui Regions.

Commenting on the Evening Standard Front Page Headline (Wednesday 13th)
Grey Power Manawatu welcomes the news that The Manawatu Wanganui Region is set to go full throttle into the year 2001.

The National Bank September quarter economic survey provides the evidence for this “…rises in visitor numbers, employment, and the number of dwelling approvals”….

Grey Power believes that our region needs both enterprise and social concern.

The activities of the business community and the actions of the regions Council’s, have combined to give us “ A right good dose” of Christmas cheer.

The Governments emphasis on regional development and the return to practical demonstrations of social concern have stimulated economic activity.

 The increase in New Zealand Superannuation, at the beginning of the year (twenty dollars a week) has been good for the region

 The introduction of income related rents on December 1st will bring relief and smiles to the faces of many low-income families this Christmas.

 Increased spending power will help boost the retail industry.

Grey Power is pleased that we go into the festive season on the up and up.
