A limited number of tickets are still available for the once-in-a-lifetime event - The 1850 Ball - to be held in Victoria Square on Friday evening.

The open-air ball will be held on the eve of Canterbury’s 150th Anniversary and dress is formal or period costume.

Dignitaries will include the Governor-General, Sir Michael Hardie Boys and Lady Hardie Boys. Others, to arrive in veteran vehicles, will include the Mayor, Garry Moore, and the Mayoress, Pam Sharpe, the Hon Christopher Godley, a great-great grandson of J Robert Godley, founder of the province, and Sir Humphry Wakefield, a descendant of Edward Gibbon Wakefield, a founder member of the Canterbury Association.

The $45 ticket includes a complimentary glass of Lindauer special reserve on arrival, entertainment by the Garden City Big Band, a commemorative dance card, and a buffet dinner.

Tickets will be available from Ticketek until 5pm tomorrow and there will be limited door sales at the Kilmore Street entrance to Victoria Square, between the Town Hall and the Parkroyal Hotel carpark.

The ball will be held from 8pm until 12.30am Saturday.
