Celebrate World Environment Day at the Zoo
‘Human’ flies, a furry tuatara and a tap the size of a small truck - The Auckland Zoo has a few new additions to celebrate World Environment Day with a day of family fun on Monday, June 4.
World Environment Day falls on Tuesday, June 5, but the zoo celebration is the ideal way to wrap up the long Queen’s Birthday Weekend.
The focus is on fun and a great range of entertainment - music, stalls, stilt walkers, wheelie bin racing, banner painting and prizes. There’s even a bit of live theatre from those oversized flies, ‘Blowhemia’. The zoo festivities will run from 10am to 3pm.
World Environment Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 to raise environmental awareness and to encourage action to protect the environment. This year’s theme is “Connect with the World Wide Web of Life”.
