Anniversary Farewell For Auckland Leader

January 24, 2002

Auckland Regional Council Chairman Philip Warren, who died suddenly yesterday, will be farewelled on the anniversary of the region to which he dedicated his life.

His funeral service will take place on Tuesday 29 January at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Parnell, commencing at 12 noon.

“While it is terribly sad to be farewelling Phil Warren, I couldn’t think of a more appropriate day on which to do so,” Acting ARC Chairman Philip Sherry says.

“He dedicated more than twenty years in public office to Auckland and contributed to the region in innumerable ways throughout his life.”

Auckland’s Anniversary Day is celebrated on the Monday closest to January 29 which is recognised as the actual anniversary date established by Governor Hobson in 1842.
