Youth Thanked For Participation

Five young people who took part in a poster campaign to celebrate life in Christchurch from a young person’s perspective will be officially thanked by Mayor Garry Moore at a function on Wednesday February 13.

The “I Love My City” poster campaign began in 1998 to show the interesting and diverse lifestyles of Christchurch youth. Each poster, a different one has been used each year, shows a young Christchurch resident and aspects of their lives that are important to them.

The last poster in the series was produced in the New Year.

Christchurch City Council Youth Advocate Robyn Moore says the posters were developed to give adults an opportunity to glimpse the world of the younger citizens and realise that the future is indeed positive.

“In a society bombarded with media reports about the negative aspects of today’s youth, it is easy to forget that tens of thousands of young Christchurch citizens lead healthy, dynamic, creative and productive lives,” she says.
