Target Aerial Spraying Over
The second operation of targeted aerial spraying against the painted apple moth in west Auckland has been successfully completed.
With a perfect morning and early start, the helicopter finished the Avondale Peninsula, parts of Waikumete Cemetery and a coastal strip near Kelston.
Lift-off was at first light at 6.30am and the operation was completed at 9.30am.
The entire 560 hectares block has now received its second targeted aerial spraying. The first was in late January. Rising winds at mid morning delayed the first two mornings’ spraying which ran into a third morning.
The targeted aerial spray zone includes about 3,000 residential and industrial properties in the west Auckland suburbs of Glendene, Kelston and Te Atatu South bordering the Whau River and its tributaries, the Avondale Peninsula, Waikumete Cemetery and Traherne Island.
A third operation will be scheduled to start in three weeks’ time.
