Spraying Against Moth Pest Over For Today

April 10 2002

About a third of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's fourth targeted aerial spraying operation against painted apple moth in west Auckland was completed this morning before rising winds stopped the operation.

Low-lying land alongside the north-western motorway between the Te Atatu and Waterview on ramps, the Waikumete Cemetery and a small residential area known as Sungrove Rise was sprayed, along with some coastal strips on the Avondale Peninsula.

Tomorrow, if weather and conditions permit, the operation will continue in the Waitakere City residential areas starting in the Te Atatu South-Glendene suburbs.

The 580-hectare targeted aerial spraying zone affects some 3,000 properties. Residents can call MAF's free phone on 0800 96 96 96 for more information about the painted apple moth programme.
