Resumption Of Artesian Water To Petone

NEWS RELEASE from Hutt City Council

17 October 2002

Resumption Of Artesian Water To Petone

Hutt City Council Mayor John Terris said he is delighted to see the resumption of the unfluoridated artesian water supply to the Petone community.

"Council has always been well aware of the significance of the unflouridated artesian water supply to the Petone community and we have always supported the continuation of the supply of artesian water to the area," said Mayor Terris.

"The resumption of the artesian supply after completion of the contract works will surely be greatly appreciated by Petone residents," said Mayor Terris.

"We can now look forward to the building of the long-awaited Petone water feature so that visitors can sample the water Petone residents have always been passionate about."

Petone has been supplied with a mix of artesian and chlorinated, fluoridated water from the Wainuiomata Treatment Plant since late January when a Wellington Regional Council contract to reline the bulk watermain in the Esplande commenced.

The $1 million contract was originally scheduled for completion in late April but major difficulties were experienced in installing the new plastic lining. The relined pipeline will result in an improvement in the quality of artesian water supplied to the community.
