Neighbourhood Week starts Saturday

Come over for a cuppa – Neighbourhood Week starts Saturday

Neighbourhood Week starts this Saturday, so there is no time to delay in organising an event in your street. It may be as simple as inviting a neighbour in for a cuppa. Barbecues, dinners, street parties, family fun days and neighbourhood plantings are just some of the other ways Christchurch communities have celebrated Neighbourhood Week in the past.

Neighbourhood Week (October 26 – November 1) is a time dedicated to getting to know the people who live close to you. “ The activities don’t have to be formal or too vigorously planned, just get out there and meet your neighbours. It is a chance to meet those people you have often waved at but never taken the time to talk to properly,” says City Councillor Sue Wells, chair of the local Neighbourhood Week Committee

Sponsors of this year’s Neighbourhood Week in Christchurch include the Christchurch City Council, Safer Christchurch, Neighbourhood Support Canterbury and Sea Cruises Ltd.

What’s happening The following Neighbourhood Week events are available for everyone to attend:-

A fun fair day for families at the Groynes, October 27, 11am-3pm. A free day hosted by the Shirley Papanui Community Board.

Explore your neighbourhood on foot, with friends and family. The Christchurch City Council has organised guided walks throughout the week. Bring warm clothing, a jacket and a drink. Contact your local service centre for meeting places and times for the following walks:-
