Stage 2 of Washington Reserve ready to go

The much-anticipated second stage of the Washington Reserve skate park is now complete. A celebration event will be held to open the new facility on Saturday 16 November 2002. The opening will kick off at 1pm.

Skate park designer Campbell Johnson says it is expected to be a low-key affair and likely to attract most of the local skateboard scene.

"Instead of having one big competition on the opening day, four 'best trick' competitions will be held. Each of the four Christchurch skate shops will sponsor a comp on one of the four obstacles selected."

There will be music, various sponsors have donated merchandise as prizes and council staff will provide a barbecue.
