Epic Events Venue Unveiled

Epic Events Venue Unveiled

A multimillion dollar development will result in a building the length of one and a half rugby fields at Mystery Creek Events Centre. The new facility maintains Mystery Creek’s position alongside the best event centres in Australasia. The Mystery Creek Events Centre will become New Zealand’s largest conference, convention, exhibition and indoor concert facility.

Loan financing in excess of four million dollars, through strategic partner ANZ Banking Group Ltd., plus investment of funds by NZ National Agricultural Fieldays Society will finance developments. The new 36m by 70m building will be added next to the existing Mystery Creek Pavilion during 2003. The new building will have the flexibility to be used as part of the existing pavilion or as a separate facility. Sound proofing will enable the new building and existing pavilion to hold individual events simultaneously. Organisers will in future have the ability to run a trade conference in tandem with an industry specific exhibition.

Added technical services offered in the new building will provide a size and quality of event facilities not currently available in New Zealand. A full acoustic setup has been included to allow musical and theatrical events to be held at the venue. At 12 metres high the new building will meet the staging standards for international touring acts which require full lighting rigs.

The new building helps to meet the rapidly growing demands for high quality exhibition space at Mystery Creek Events Centre. General Manager Barry Quayle says “We are continuing to develop a high quality and versatile facility. While meeting the growing needs of our current events we also try to anticipate future international trends in events to maximise opportunities for New Zealand and the Waikato”.

An upmarket foyer area will function as a registration and arrivals area for both the new building and existing pavilion. Receptions and functions for up to 300 persons will be able to be held on a mezzanine floor level.

The new building will enable Mystery Creek Events Centre to attract new events to New Zealand and the Waikato area. The improved facilities will provide the opportunity for top quality events such as large indoor concerts and conferences in the Waikato region. The increase in the number and size of events hosted at Mystery Creek Events Centre results in significant economic benefits for the community. Fieldays Society President, Jack Parle says, “the Fieldays Society is committed to adding value to local business and creating further opportunities for the wider community.”

As part of the new building project Mystery Creek Events Centre will also upgrade lighting and acoustics in the existing pavilion.

The existing pavilion is already the largest clear span exhibition space in New Zealand.

Tenders for the work are now being called. Construction is expected to begin early in the New Year.
