Free Family Swim Days

Free Family Swim Days

Manukau City Council’s Leisure Services team is making it easy for Manurewa and Otara families to shake off the winter exercise slump and kick start their exercise habits for summer.

Free family swim days have been organised. Saturday 7 December is a pool fun day at the Otara Leisure Centre (10.30am to 5pm) and is followed by a swim carnival on Sunday the 8th from 10am to 4pm. Featuring during the fun day is Kapa Haka, Bairds Samoan Group, karaoke, Cook Island Group, surf simulator, a bouncy castle, Council’s mobile library, aqua runs, novelty races, and the FLEP band.

On Saturday 14 December, from noon to 5pm is a family fun day at the Manurewa Pool, Frances Street.

Council’s Acting Leisure Services Manager, Brett Jude, says that the fun days are a good way to introduce water confidence to all ages. “We’ve got a huge range of activities for all the family to enjoy, including pool games and a chance to try out kayaking. We’ll be running water safety drills using life jackets and holding swimming demonstrations.

“We also have body building demonstrations, aqua runs, bouncy castles, lolly scrambles, food eating competitions, bombing competitions, slippery slides, golf games plus much more.”

A free sausage sizzle will also be provided.

“The days are all about providing an opportunity for the local community to become more confident and safe in the water, be active and have fun as families”, says Mr Jude.

Phone Manurewa Pool on 267 7072 or the Otara Leisure Centre on 274 6917 for more information.
