Council rewards civically minded citizens
Decades of work with youth movements; support for victims of crime; and work with young Maori are among the many ways Christchurch citizens have earned a Civic Award this year.
Mayor Garry Moore recently presented 33 individuals and organisations with a 2002 Civic Award recognising their contributions to the welfare of the city.
At the ceremony in the Christchurch City Council chambers, each recipient was given a medallion and certificate in front of invited guests that included family and friends.
The annual awards are made to
people or organisations, who have served the city in a
voluntary capacity for a number of years. Work has usually
been done in the areas of recreation, youth activities,
social welfare, educational services, cultural affairs,
religious affairs and community
affairs.
