Aerial Operation Underway Today

Aerial Operation Underway Today

The latest general aerial operation to wipe out the painted apple moth started at first light today (Tuesday 7 January).

Today’s operation will cover the entire eradication zone, including the new “Hobsonville hotspot” that includes small parts of Beachaven and Greenhithe. Immediate action has been taken to control a recent find in this area.

Three aircraft will be used in today’s operation – a Fokker Friendship, a small, fixed-wing aircraft and a helicopter. As today’s operation is during the school holidays, the operation will not stop between 8.00-9.00am, 12.15-1.00pm or 3.00-4.00pm. During term-time, the aircraft are refuelled during these times when children are most likely to be travelling to and from school or taking lunch breaks.

The aerial operation may take more than one day to complete, depending on the weather.
