MEDIA RELEASE

17 January 2003

Metrowater director reappointed

Auckland City Council has approved the reappointment of Mr Michael Stiassny as a director of Metrowater.

The chairperson of the council’s Finance and Corporate Business Committee, Councillor Douglas Armstrong announced today both the reappointment of Mr Stiassny to the board and the council’s recommendation that he be re-appointed as chairperson.

Councillor Armstrong said Mr Stiassny’s is one of the longest serving Metrowater directors. He has been chairman of the board since 1998 and his reappointment is recognition of his very effective contribution to, and leadership of, the board to date. The council’s decision to reappoint Mr Stiassny follows an independent review of the board in November.

Councillor Armstrong also announced today the retirement of Ms Pamela Jefferies and Ms Josephine Grierson from the board.

“On behalf of the council I would like to thank them both for their valuable contribution and service to residents and ratepayers,” Councillor Armstrong said.

Metrowater is a Local Authority Trading Enterprise (LATE). It is fully owned by the council and provides quality water and wastewater services for the city.
