Aerial Operation Resumes Today – Friday 31 January

The current aerial operation to wipe out the painted apple moth will resume this morning (Friday 31 January), soon after first light.

The operation commenced around 6.00am yesterday morning (Thursday 30 January) and was suspended at 12 noon due to rising winds and temperatures.

The three aircraft – two fixed wing planes and a helicopter – completed approximately 50% of the 10,000 hectare eradication zone yesterday. The remaining 5,000 hectares is expected to be completed within four hours this morning, if weather conditions remain suitable.

As the school-term has now started, aircraft will once again be refuelling between 8.00-9.00am, 12.15-1.00pm and 3.00-4.00pm – while children are travelling to and from school and eating their lunch.

The public can call the free phone 0800 96 96 96 for general information about the programme. People can also listen to Newstalk ZB, 531 pi, AM 990 BC and Radio Korea 1386AM for updates.
