Design competition for Tamaki Drive
Auckland City Council is inviting design proposals from professional designers for the development of Auckland’s Tamaki Drive.
The Tamaki Drive coastal area is one of Auckland’s top attractions and runs from Quay Street to Archilles Point. Its broad combination of qualities makes it many things for many people. It is well used by visitors and locals as a recreational playground and forms an important traffic corridor linking the east, south and the commercial centre of Auckland.
The Tamaki Drive area is particularly compact and its popularity has given rise to conflicts with competing uses such as transportation and ongoing development. This has prompted the council to look at the future direction and development of the area on a wider scale.
The uniqueness and character of the area,
its popularity, future demands and environmental issues will
be key considerations for keen designers.
Registration
and information for the competition, including an aerial
photograph and the design brief, can be accessed through the
website: www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/tamakidrive.
Designers wishing to submit a proposal must register their
interest online by 21 February
2003.
