Easter weekend liquor ban
Easter weekend liquor ban for Blockhouse Bay Beach Reserve and Riversdale Reserve
The police will enforce a liquor ban over the Easter weekend covering Blockhouse Bay Beach Reserve and Riversdale Reserve in Avondale.
The ban prohibits drinking at both reserves from 9pm to 5am on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings during the Easter weekend.
Auckland City’s City Development Committee endorsed the liquor ban, following a request from the Avondale Community Board.
Auckland City’s community planner, David Boersen, says the community board received several requests from local residents for the bans. Riversdale Reserve and Blockhouse Bay Beach Reserve are popular places for young people to gather and consume alcohol in the evenings.
The ban is part of Auckland City’s wider agenda to make the city a safer, healthier and more enjoyable place.
The ban gives the police the
authority to ask people to stop drinking alcohol in public
places, remove their alcohol or, in extreme cases, arrest
them. Fines of up to $500 can be imposed.
