Auckland ratepayers $1.2 million better off

MEDIA RELEASE

4 July 2003

Auckland ratepayers $1.2 million better off

Auckland City ratepayers will be $1.2 million better off if they take up Metrowater’s ten per cent discount for prompt payment.

The extra $1.2 million in ratepayers’ pockets comes from a $9 million saving if the Metrowater discount is taken up by all ratepayers, minus the 2.5 per cent ($7.8 million) Auckland City rates increase this year.

“This is great news. If Auckland City ratepayers take up Metrowater’s offer they will be paying $1.2 million less for council services this year”, says Councillor Douglas Armstrong.

Metrowater is a wholly owned subsidiary of Auckland City council, who just announced a 2.5 per cent rates increase this year that was the lowest in the region and one of the lowest in the country.

The 2.5 per cent rates increase equates to $7.8 million being collected this year by Auckland City.

“Not only have we limited rates to the rate of inflation, we have left Auckland City ratepayers with a substantial amount in their pockets”, adds Mr Armstrong.
