Glass And Ceramic Art Features At Nathan Homestead

Glass And Ceramic Art Features At Nathan Homestead

Manukau City Council's Manurewa Community Arts Centre (Nathan Homestead) has a great new term three timetable, especially for those interested in glass and ceramic art.

The two day Handmade Ceramic Tile workshop with tutor Judith Rosamund will be returning on 2 and 16 August. Learn how to make beautiful handmade tile(s) for decorative or functional use. On day one, design and make a tile starting from raw clay. On day two learn the basics of glazing and how to apply them to the bisqued tile; a further firing transforms the seemingly dull colours to a vividly coloured finished object.

Create a simple bowl shaped vessel using the mould, firing, demoulding and manufacturing technique, in the Introduction to Glass Casting workshop with Pam Olver. This is a three day workshop commencing on 9 August.

Linley Tuahine's Glass Collage one day workshop uses the technique of lead lighting and incorporates personal memorabilia such as jewellery in a collage process. At the end of the day students will take home a beautiful, unique work of art.

Tutor Sumi introduces the timeless handcraft; Decorative Glass Painting. In this four week course you will learn a variety of techniques including stencilling, stamping, sponging and painting that will enable you to transform bottles, vases and wine glasses into masterpieces.

Something new for the children this term is Stone Sculpture with Fiona McKee. Using the medium of clay children can learn the fundamentals of sculpting.
