Residents asked for input to flagship Botany Library
Manukau City Council is asking its residents for ideas on the design, stock and services of the new Botany Library.
Council is about to start work on the city's newest library, located at the heart of the Botany Town Centre, above the Cock and Bull Tavern, next to Whitcoulls.
Libraries Planner Dena Gilmore say that Botany will be Manukau Libraries' 'flagship'. "We want it to be New Zealand's most beautiful library, a focus of community pride, and with an international reputation for innovation."
Mrs Gilmore says that the intention is that the library will have a retail look and feel, and it will include a cafe.
"Of course, there will be a range of books and educational resources, and it will also have a learn.net. These are specially designed learning spaces that combines information technology, research material and skilled library staff.
"We have some ideas about what the library might be, but we are extremely interested to hear from residents about what they would like to see," Mrs Gilmore says.
Residents and patrons of the Botany Shopping Centre are invited to either of two public meetings. The first is on 4 August at 10.30am in the Community Board Room, Pakuranga Library & Ward Centre in Aylesbury Street, and the second on 7 August at 7.30pm in the Community Room of Botany Town Centre (amenities corridor, upper level, next to Whitcoulls).
Those who cannot attend the meetings, but wish to provide feedback should do so by 9 August. You can write to Council, email Dena on dgilmore@manukau.govt.nz or fax her on 09-262 5171.
The total estimated cost of the
project is $3,160,000. Council intends to have the library
open by 30 June 2004.
