Rates Protest March - Disclaimer Re Fundraising

Rates Protest March - Disclaimer Re Fundraising.

The march up Queen Street tomorrow billed as the Biggest Rate Revolt Ever is not being organised by the Regional Ratepayers Rebellion campaign.

While supporting the original intent of the march - to demonstrate against the ARC rates rise and rating policy - we understand that the organisers propose to collect money during the march.

We wish to make it clear that this money is not being collected at our request, nor will we administer or receive any of the money raised. That is entirely a matter for the organisers.

This Rebellion campaign has not sought to raise any funds up to this stage - nor will it do so until and unless an appropriate and legal organisation is in place to administer funds.

The Rebellion campaign remains a Ratepayers Associations umbrella group, supported by tens of thousands of ordinary ratepayers, and other groups such as Grey Power and trade unions, whose objective is to have the ARC rates reset.

In that regard it is significant that an opinion poll today showed that 71% of Aucklanders support that stand.

We wish the organisers every success with tomorrow's march, which we hope will add to the huge display of protest seen already with our petition, and by the protest of individual ratepayers who have not paid their rates at all, or are paying less than the demanded amounts.

The campaign will continue until the people's demands are met.
