Villa Maria Cult - Couture Captivates Large Audience

Budding designers successfully melded culture and high fashion together last Friday night and captivated an estimated audience of 700 hundred, at the second Villa Maria Cult – Couture Wearable Art Awards.

Awards organiser Leisa Siteine said “The event is about reflecting the diverse cultures and life of Manukau through a contemporary, wearable statement.

“The response to this year’s event has been awesome. Judges said the standard was higher than last year with standout entries reflecting months of hard work and creative inspiration”, said Ms Siteine.

A total of sixty entries were received in the seven categories of the awards. Each category winner received a $500 cash prize with the supreme award winner Vizezio Louis Thomsen receiving $2,000 for his Asia/Pacific Harmony entry.

Vizezio was also the winner of the Matrimonial Blitz category. His outstanding design brought together elements of Asian and Pacific Island design.

For those unlucky enough not to attend the awards the garments are currently on display at Auckland International Airport until 1 October. After this you can catch the display at Botany Town Centre until 5 October.
