ARC: We’re not cutting bus services on the North Shore

9 October 2003

The ARC has no plans to cut current bus services on the North Shore, despite indications from North Shore City Council (NSCC) to the contrary.

ARC Transport Director, Peter Winder, says that any suggestion of service reduction is unfounded and incorrect.

“We have never suggested reducing the current level of bus service to the North Shore,” he says. “North Shore City Councillors are clearly confused.”

The ARC is working through a consultation process with North Shore City councillors to determine services for the opening of the busway, which includes reviewing services frequency and routes for 2006.

“ARC staff have presented current proposals to North Shore City Councillors and staff to ensure they have an opportunity to contribute to the design of services,” says Mr Winder. “ARC councillors have not yet seen this work, no decisions have been made and there is a lot of work to do before services for 2006 are finalised.”

Any proposed changes in service will be presented to the public providing an opportunity for submissions to be made.

“The bottom line is that once the busway is completed, North Shore residents will receive the best bus services in New Zealand.”

Mr Winder also addressed confusion about the impact of ARC rates on the busway services. “The ARC’s rates for this year or next year have no bearing on the proposed bus services for 2006.”
