Hutt City's Central Library will be re-locating to the Horticultural Hall, Laings Road, from 8 December 2003 until July 2004, to allow $3million of refurbishment work to be carried out.

The Central Library will close, in order to move stock, services and staff, on Saturday 29th November .

It will re-open in the Horticultural Hall on Monday 8th December 2003. No Central Library items will be due during the closure, but Central Library items can be returned to any Hutt City Community Library while they are closed.

Parking will be available in the Fountain Car Park, beside the Horticultural Hall. The Library will be open usual opening hours. 9.30am - 8.30am Monday to Friday; 10.00am-5.00pm on Saturdays; and 1.00pm-5.00pm on Sunday.

Hutt City Council approved the refurbishment of the Central Library when it adopted its Long Term Council Community Plan this year. The work will include earthquake strengthening, improved fire egress, a larger and more visible stair access, a bigger lift and construction of a new south entrance from the carpark.

The refurbished Library will feature more public space within the same shell of the building. The collections will be spread over three floors with the Children's Library on the Mezzanine floor.

All main collections will be available, including magazines, books and DVDs.

All services will be available. This includes pre school story times; The Learning Centre, homework help, internet access and the newspapers although there will be limited seating and study space.
