Dog Control Act Changes Being Actioned

Manukau City Council’s animal management contractor Direct Service Solutions have begun actioning the amendments to the Dog Control Act which came into force on 1st December 2003.

One of the new laws requires all dog owners to carry a leash when exercising their dog remembering that it must be under control at all times. Failure to carry a leash could result in a $100 fine.

Dog owners will initially receive a warning for a first offence, with infringements notices being issued to repeat offenders.

Dog control officers will be patrolling beaches, parks and reserves by vehicle and on foot looking for any dog owners breaching the new law.

Direct Service Solutions Animal Management will be carrying out high profile patrols on the following areas from December 03 to March 04.

Eastern Beach

McLeans Park


Kiwi Esplanade

Ambury Farm

Mangere Mountain

Mangere Domain

Kawakawa Bay

Mountfort Park
