Manukau City Council stresses no decision made yet

Contrary to what was reported in the New Zealand Herald this morning the Manukau City Council has in no way predetermined its response to the latest leaky building issue.

“The issues surrounding the Code of Compliance Certificates have far-reaching effects for home owners, developers and the building industry as a whole”, said Colin Dale, Manukau City Council Chief Executive. “We recognise the impacts any decision will have and that is why the Council is not willing to, or in a position to, predetermine its decision”.

“To say other Councils are likely to follow is not appropriate at this stage. Each Council has a responsibility to weigh up the facts and consequences for their individual communities, not just blindly follow the biggest Council”.

“Auckland City Council’s decision is theirs to make but I can assure the community that whatever decision this Council makes it will be a decision made with the full knowledge of the impacts on Manukau”, Colin Dale said.
