Stage 1 of Transit New Zealand’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project continues. There are significant closures affecting motorists over the coming week, these are outlined below:
Port / Wellesley Off-ramp (SH1
northbound)
- CLOSED day and night from 7am Saturday 28
February until 7pm Sunday 29 February 2004. Also CLOSED at
night from 8pm to 6am Tuesday 2 March.
Khyber Pass
On-ramp (SH1 southbound) and Off-ramp (SH1 northbound)

CLOSED from 7am Sunday 29 February until 6am Monday 1 March.
Also CLOSED at night from 8.00pm to 6.00am from Monday 1
March through to Thursday 4 March.
Symonds Street On-ramp
(SH1 Southbound)
- CLOSED at night from 8pm to 6am from
Sunday 29 February until Thursday 4 March 2004.
Gillies
Ave On-ramp (SH1 northbound)
- CLOSED at night from 8pm
to 6am from Sunday 29 February until Tuesday 2 March and
Thursday 4 March.
Port to Northwestern Motorway Link

CLOSED at night from 8pm to 6am Wednesday 3
March.
Northwestern Motorway to Port Link
- CLOSED at
night from 8pm to 6am Wednesday 3 March.
Wellesley Street
On-ramp (SH16 Westbound)
- CLOSED at night from 8pm to
6am Wednesday 3 March.
Northwestern to Southern Motorway
Link (SH16 to SH1)
- CLOSED at night from 8pm to 6am from
Sunday 29 February until Tuesday 2 March and Thursday 4
March.
There will also be ongoing north and southbound
lane closures at night on the Southern Motorway between the
Gillies Avenue on and off-ramps and the Symonds Street
over-bridge until 2005.
Please choose alternative on- and off-ramps during these times. Motorists are advised that there could be delays.
The CMJ Project
Stage 1 of
Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project covers
the section of motorway between the Upper Queen Street
over-bridge and Gillies Avenue on- and off-ramps and is
scheduled for completion in 2005.
