Linwood celebrates its people at Multicultural Festival

Kapahaka groups to tango dancers will represent the various cultures living in Linwood at the area’s sixth annual Multicultural Festival on Saturday 13 March.

The event will be held at the Linwood Community Arts Centre carpark and Doris Lusk Reserve between 11am and 3pm.

Core funded by the Hagley/Ferrymead Community Board, the day will include performances, food and information stalls involving people from a wide range of cultures, according to organiser Hotorene Hepi of the Linwood Community Arts Centre.

“There will be a variety of ethnic food to try, along with performances by a number of cultural groups,” Mr Hepi said. Well-known entertainer, Janice Grey will compere the events.

Inside the Linwood Community Arts Centre will be a multicultural art exhibition by local artists and school children. This will be open to the public for two weeks from Monday 8 March during gallery hours.

If wet, the Festival will be held on Saturday 20 March. The Multicultural Festival is supported by Woolston Club, Plains FM and Richmond Working Men’s Club.
