General Aerial Operation On Today

General Aerial Operation On Today – Tuesday 9 March

The general aerial operation against painted apple moth is ON today, Tuesday 9 March. This scheduled general aerial operation will treat the 3 small risk areas - Waikumete Cemetery, Ranui/Swanson & Riverpark – a total of 700 hectares.

As a guide, given continued favourable weather and the completion of an operation in a single day, then it is highly likely that: The operation will start at approximately 7am. Waikumete Cemetery will be treated first followed by Ranui/Swanson and finally Riverpark. All areas will be treated by a small aircraft. All treatments are expected to finish by mid morning.

Even though the aircraft may be in the air there will be NO treatment between 8am and 9am as children travel to school.

Over the next few months aerial operations will be scaling down. During this phase of the programme, which we are confident we are winning, areas will be gradually taken off the treatment schedule.

Today is the last treatment for Waikumete Cemetery and Riverpark. After today Ranui/Swanson will receive three more aerial treatments at approximately 21 day intervals. The last of these treatments is scheduled for 11 May 2004. This is a guide only and weather conditions may cause delays.

To find out about the scaling back of aerial operations the public can call the free information line 0800 96 96 96 or visit the residents’ page on-line at www.maf.govt.nz/paintedapplemoth, for details and to register for email or text message status updates.
