CMJ Traffic Bulletin: Saturday 2 May Until Thursday 6 May

Stages 1 and 2 of Transit New Zealand’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project continue. There are significant closures affecting motorists over the coming week, these are outlined below:

CMJ Stage 1: Full motorway closures All southbound lanes on the Southern Motorway over the Khyber Pass Viaduct – CLOSED – for up to fifteen minutes, between 1am and 2.30am on Tuesday 4 May. Traffic will be held on the motorway during the closure. All northbound lanes on the Southern Motorway over the Newmarket Viaduct – CLOSED – in the early morning from 12midnight to 4am on Wednesday 5 May.

Detour: for SH1 northbound traffic - off at Market Rd off-ramp, along Great South Rd and Alpers Ave and on at Gillies Ave on-ramp.

Ramp and link closures Sunday 2 May – CLOSED – during the day and overnight from 7am Sunday to 6am on Monday: Gillies Ave on-ramp (SH1 northbound) Khyber Pass off-ramp (SH1 northbound)

Sunday 2 May – CLOSED – overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning: Symonds St on-ramp (SH1 southbound) Northwestern to Southern Motorway link (SH16 to SH1 southbound)

Monday 3 May – CLOSED – overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning: Symonds St on-ramp (SH1 southbound) Khyber Pass on-ramp (SH1 southbound) Gillies Ave off-ramp (SH1 southbound) Gillies Ave on-ramp (SH1 northbound) Khyber Pass off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Northwestern to Southern Motorway link (SH16 to SH1 southbound)

Tuesday 4 May – CLOSED – at night from 8pm to 12midnight: Gillies Ave on-ramp (SH1 northbound)

Tuesday 4 May – CLOSED – overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning: Symonds St on-ramp (SH1 southbound) Khyber Pass off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Northwestern to Southern Motorway link (SH16 to SH1 southbound)

Wednesday 5 May – CLOSED – overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning: Symonds St on-ramp (SH1 southbound) Gillies Ave on-ramp (SH1 northbound) Khyber Pass off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Northwestern to Southern Motorway link (SH16 to SH1 southbound)

Thursday 6 May – CLOSED – overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning: Symonds St on-ramp (SH1 southbound) Gillies Ave on-ramp (SH1 northbound) Khyber Pass off-ramp (SH1 northbound) Northwestern to Southern Motorway link (SH16 to SH1 southbound)

Local road closures Khyber Pass Road may be closed during the day on Saturday 2 May if inclement weather prevents work on the motorway. Either Khyber Pass Rd or Boston Rd, near the motorway ramps – CLOSED – overnight from 8pm through to 6am the following morning from Sunday 2 May to Thursday 6 May. Diversions will be in place for all closures.

Ongoing motorway closures There will also be ongoing north and southbound lane closures at night on the Southern Motorway between the Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps and the Upper Queen St over-bridge from Sunday through Thursday nights until 2005.

Please choose alternative on- and off-ramps during these closures. Motorists are advised that there could be delays.

The CMJ Project Stage 1 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project covers the section of motorway between the Upper Queen St over-bridge and Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps and is scheduled for completion in 2005.

Stage 2 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project extends from Bond St on the Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to the interface with CMJ Stage 1 near Symonds St and from Wellington St on the Southern Motorway (SH1) to Symonds St.
