Youth Awareness Week 3rd - 9th May, 2004

NEWS RELEASE
from Hutt City Council

29 April 2004

YOUTH AWARENESS WEEK 3RD - 9TH MAY, 2004

Youth Infusion - Hutt City's youth council - is busily organising activities to celebrate Youth Awareness Week. The week has a twofold aim: first to show the value that youth bring to our communities, and secondly to encourage youth to feel part of the wider communities in which they live.

Our launch activity on May 4th is breakfast with Mayor John Terris and councillors. Those attending will be Youth Infusion members and student representatives from the high schools in the Hutt.

Later on that day we have our monthly Youth Infusion meeting - open to all young people - where graffiti control and the future for Phonic will be discussed.

"This is a great opportunity for young people to come and have a say about issues that directly relate to them. Youth Infusion is also looking for new members and coming to the meeting is a chance to 'suss us out'," said Veronique Rochecouste, Youth Infusion's Coordinator.

The meeting starts at 4pm, Room 3, Te Awakairangi, Cnr of Laings Rd and Myrtle Sts. Pizza will be available at the end of the meeting.

May 8th is a full on day at Phonic: from 11am - 5pm there is a Youth Open Day with stalls run by youth service organisations such as Youth Health Service, and young entrepreneurs such as Aerial Piracy Productions. Anyone who would like to have a stall can contact Marc on 566-2530. There will be a sausage sizzle and music.

108 Dragons presents: Steel Wheel Styles - A dance will start at 7pm and go 'til midnight, with some of the best young DJs showcasing their talent. Entry is $3 and the proceeds from the sausage sizzle and dance will go towards the skate park.
