Council’s new draft community plan receives 278 submissions

The Christchurch City Council has received 278 submissions on its draft community plan Our Community Plan Christchurch O-Tautahi.

Our Community Plan Christchurch O-Tautahi was available for public comment from Monday 5 April to Thursday 6 May.

A preliminary analysis of submissions indicates that the top categories people have given feedback on are: city streets (roads, lighting etc); finances, rates and Council spending; major projects including the Civic Offices and a flatwater facility; waste disposal and recycling and community outcomes.

If adopted by the Christchurch City Council in June, the final community plan would result in a rate increase of 3.26 per cent.

Background

Under the Local Government Act 2002, all Councils are required to produce a 10-year Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP). It must include a set of outcomes, which describe what sort of community Christchurch wants to be, and list the activities that the Council will undertake to contribute towards achieving those outcomes. This year’s Our Community Plan Christchurch O-Tautahi is Christchurch City Council’s first response to the Act’s requirement. The Council will meet to adopt the final community plan on Wednesday 30 June.

Our Community Plan Christchurch O-Tautahi includes the Council’s annual financial plan and programme for this financial year, and projected financial data for the following nine years.
